Description

Joy’s addiction to sex and love is her primary compass for self-worth, and thus far it’s led her to rock bottom. UNLOVABLE opens as Joy’s life crumbles around her. With nothing left to lose, she tries a 12-step program where she meets Maddie who, as Joy’s sponsor, prescribes 30 days of cold-turkey sobriety from meaningless hookups, contacting her ex and all other habits that come with her addiction. With her penchant for floral prints, polka dots and stuffed animals, Joy finds herself on a path toward understanding herself in the context of the whole universe — and even being a little OK. On the way, she collides with Maddie’s reclusive musician brother, who offers a lifeline — playing the drums — as a new center of gravity.

Co-written by and starring Charlene deGuzman as Joy, this spirited drama filled with comedic moments explores the darkness of unpacking emotional trauma and how artistic expression and honest friendship offer hope. UNLOVABLE illustrates how healing is not linear and that it can be simultaneously heartbreaking and heartwarming, horrible and euphoric.
