Dengue Fever to Headline CAAMFest’s “Directions in Sound” Music Program

Featuring emerging Asian American artists from the Bay and beyond, CAAMFest’s Directions in Sound will take you on a trip through the music scene that’s blowing up around the globe, from electronic pop to new-school hip-hop.

Dengue Fever, Jhameel and Vinroc will perform at Rickshaw Stop on March 23 at 9:30 PM.

Dengue Fever is a six-member band from Los Angeles who combine sixties’ Cambodian pop music with psychedelic rock. Their unique sound draws enthusiastic crowds from L.A. to the U.K. and high praise from Rolling Stone, Mojo, iTunes and more. Dengue Fever has won countless awards including Best New Artist (LA Weekly) and Best World Music Album (Independent Music Awards).

Born of Korean, Japanese and Mongolian ancestry, the provocative, androgynous, multi-faceted indie pop artist Jhameel is creating his own innovative world of high-energy, synthy R&B pop that draws inspiration from the likes of Prince, Phoenix, and MGMT. Jhameel was named “2012 Band on the Rise” by San Francisco Bay Guardian.

Former 2x World Champion DJ and arguably one of the most versatile DJ/Producers in the world, Vinroc (a.k.a. Vincent Punsalan), has lived the Hip-Hop dream. He’s shared the stage with celebrated DJ’s such as Z-Trip, Jam Master Jay, Africa Bambaata and DJ Qbert, and been featured in numerous publications from URB Magazine to Rolling Stone. Vinroc’s success has culminated in the launch of his own label, That’s That.
