Description

Sifting through cardboard boxes of childhood ephemera instead of going out for drinks or karaoke, handsome Chung (Moses Chan) seems like a man living in another time — much to the dismay of his friends and forward co-worker Sin-yi (Candy Cheung). Chung, who recently relocated to his childhood home after living in Canada, is deliberately engaged in what he calls “slow living,” a contemplative counterpoint to Hong Kong’s fast moving day-to-day. Attempting to reclaim missing monuments of the city he remembers, he leaves graffiti of cryptic dot diagrams near many of the island’s subway stations. When they’re deciphered by a lovely Mandarin teacher from the mainland (Meng Ting-yi), they begin a playful courtship, their solitary paths crisscrossing as they risk arrest to leave each other a series of public clues. Eschewing the frenetic pace of his contemporaries, Amos Why delivers a confident independent debut that unfurls at its own pace even as the city it so clearly loves swarms around it.
