A-Doc Breakout Sessions: AAPI Stories of Legacy
We are living in unprecedented times, where issues impacting the AAPI communities are exceptionally complex and involve an array of interrelated social, economic, political, and historical dynamics. The 2025 A-Doc AAPI Futures Impact Fellowship cohort demonstrates how their film and impact campaign fit within the current social and political moment, and AAPI movement and organizing work past and present. Join us to hear how this cohort is centering AAPI communities that highlight solidarity frameworks, actively fight stereotypes, and amplify stories of abundance—that are able to reach stretch audiences—are needed now more than ever.
Breakout 1: AAPI Stories of Self Determination
AAPI communities deserve to govern themselves beyond war, imperialism, and violence. How can stories about self-determination support more people to join our movements? Join us to discuss how we come together to highlight stories and movement work to combat the growing threats impacting our AAPI communities, such as the housing crisis impacting, rapid gentrification, racial discrimination, growing threats of deportation, and much more.
Breakout 2: AAPI Stories of Solidarity
AAPIs can connect to the struggles and experiences of people within and outside our communities. We are stronger and more powerful when we act in solidarity with others. How can we build multi-racial, intergeneral and intersectional solidarity for our movements? Join us to discuss how we come together to highlight stories and movement work to discuss powerful examples of how narratives alongside movements of solidarity can create a groundswell of power.
Breakout 3: AAPI Stories of Belonging
AAPIs deserve to be included, with intersectionality in mind, in politics, in pop culture, news, social justice, and more. How can we make sure our stories belong in every aspect of our culture, that is for us, by us? Join us to discuss how we come together to highlight stories and movement work where a sense of belonging can go beyond the choir, and reach audiences not yet engaged in our movements.
Breakout 4: AAPI Stories of Pride
AAPIs are not a monolith. We can be proud of our diversity in language, culture, ethnicity, and experience. How we unite and build strength in numbers may depend on the issues at hand. How can we build within diasporic movements? Join us to discuss how we come together to highlight stories and movements where pride can be front and center in our movement work that shows the power in who we are as AAPIs.
