AGAINST AMNESIA: Screening & Seminar
- Shorts
- 110 mins
This program, in partnership with the Islamic Scholarship Fund, explores the intertwined histories and ongoing realities of displacement, colonial violence, and resistance in Palestine and Bangladesh. Through a narrative short about a Palestinian grandmother uprooted from her home and a documentary on the forgotten 1970s genocide in Bangladesh, the program highlights the the ways in which historical violence shapes mundane aspects of everyday life. A facilitated discussion will follow, connecting past and present to foster collective understanding and solidarity.
The post-screening discussion will be led by Taz Ahmed, focusing on collective liberation as a way of recognizing the interconnected nature of oppression and the need for collaborative efforts to create meaningful change. The event will unpack shared histories between Bengalis and Palestinians, considering the significance of the U.S.-funded Pakistan Army during the 1971 war and what these struggles can teach us as we face the ongoing genocide of Palestinians.
This program is co-presented by 3rd i Film Festival, Islamic Scholarship Fund, MPAC-Hollywood, and the Arab Film Institute.
