HBO APA Visionaries

CAAM is thrilled to partner with HBO and their annual Asian Pacific American Visionaries Competition. This short film competition adds to Hollywood’s changing landscape of inclusion and representation of marginalized voices by showcasing cinematic storytellers of Asian and Pacific Islander descent. Please join us as we celebrate the three finalists for their 2019 competition and find out who wins. This special program will include a on-stage conversation with finalists and other special guests.

When Sujata, an empty-nester, gets an unexpected piece of news about her secret childhood sweetheart and best friend Premila, she begins to rekindle the spark with the aid of a new Facebook account, but her abusive husband takes notice.

MOONWALK WITH ME

A story from the heart about a Korean American girl named Juno who is haunted by her father’s disappearances. Upon his return, Juno must decide to keep her drifting father grounded or to let him go.

ZOETIC

A coming of age story about a single, 60-year-old Chinese immigrant mother who, for the first time ever, is challenged to finally think of her own wants and needs. She reluctantly agrees to maneuver the world of online dating apps with the help of her daughter. Through the experience, mother and daughter begin to break through the unyielding, yet all too familiar emotional wall quarantining Asian parent from child.
