In this fast-paced documentary directed by Shubhangi Shekhar (Amerigirl, Lunatic) and produced by former CAAM Fellow Pulkit Datta, the 12 best Indian basketball players from around the world join forces to compete for $1 million on ESPN and to show the world that brown ballers exist. Calling themselves India Rising, the team faces off against former college and NBA players in a high-stakes, single elimination showdown in Kansas City known as The Basketball Tournament. Combining interviews, cinema verité, and game footage, Shekhar takes us behind the scenes with this unique team. Along the way, they confront stereotypes from the outside world, as well as tensions within the newly formed team, finding community and inspiration in unexpected places.
