Description

In the mid-1980s, a small village in India is exhilarated when one of their own travels to America, or “Umrika” in Hindi. The Umrika-bound traveler, Udai, details his adventures abroad in a series of postcards and packages sent back to the village, inspiring laughter, debate and hope among his avid recipients.

When the letters stop coming — and with the news of a family member passing and revelation of a well-kept secret — Udai’s younger brother Rama takes it upon himself to retrace his brother’s steps to find answers.

Winner of the Sundance Audience Award, Prashant Nair’s UMRIKA combines both lighthearted and bittersweet elements to form a story of what it takes to realize a dream. Featuring Suraj Sharma (LIFE OF PI) and Tony Revolori (THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL).
