Description
Grandpa Tom has lived nearly a century, and when his granddaughter and filmmaker, Kimi, begins documenting his story of love and loss, she sees portions of her screenplay coming to life in the process. Tom Takesue is a first generation Japanese American born in the early 1900s and raised in Hawai’i. He’s a retired postal worker and recent widower that occupies his time with ordinary chores when Kimi starts capturing his thoughts as he offers insight into their family history. Through interviews and candid conversations, Tom provides prospective growing up poor and struggling to survive, but also of finding love. Kimi finds inspiration and discovers her grandfather’s creative side when he takes an interest in her screenplay and offers ideas for titles and songs. Tom may be 95, but age doesn’t hinder his vitality or honesty, which provides unexpected responses and humorous moments. 95 AND 6 TO GO was shot over six years in Honolulu and bridges a generational gap that not only allows grandfather and granddaughter to connect, but collaborate as a team.
