Description

Mutang Urud straddles two disparate worlds — living as a stay at home dad in Montreal and as an activist for indigenous rights in Borneo. Ashley Duong’s debut documentary, A TIME TO SWIM, follows Mutuang’s journey back to the place he once called home, but much has changed in Sarawak, Borneo, in the 25 years since his exile. People who once fought for the forest alongside him have joined forces with the logging companies that are destroying it. Although the threat of prison looms if Mutang entangles himself in the fight for the forest, the allure is too strong to resist. A TIME TO SWIM explores how destruction of place affects the fabric of a community through Mutang’s search for belonging, where the very notions of home and heritage are slipping away.
