Hella Strangers
Directed by Chelsea Chang
Description
Creator/actor Chelsea Chang takes us back to the 90s for some Bay Area episodic QPOC realness. In HELLA STRANGERS’ pilot episode, successful rapper Daddy Drew comes back to the Bay for a radio interview and announces that he’ll be performing at a “Heaven & Hell” party, where all his adoring fans and friends can catch his lyrical poetry. Meanwhile, Chang encounters her crush, Genica, on the subway, who invites her to the very same party where Daddy Drew will be performing. Smitten, Chang asks friends about Genica, learning that she’s quite polarizing in social circles.
At the party, Chang tries to keep her cool amidst booze, music, dancing, drugs, bros, and sexual tension. Is Genica simply being nice and wanting Chang in the friend zone, or is she done with her boyfriend and looking for love? Personalities bubble over and Genica and Chang escape for a breather from the party. Feelings start to become clear and we all wonder … Will they or won’t they?
