DRIVING WITH THE TOP DOWN, a touching film by filmmaker Edward Gunawan explores his family’s intergenerational trauma and intersectional struggles as a queer Chinese Indonesian in this intimately personal video essay. Gunawan’s briliiant usage of personal photos and archival footage connects his personal experiences with a deeper legacy and historical context.

About the filmmaker: Edward Gunawan loves creating and collaborating on transnational projects across genres and media. He wrote a mental health webcomic Press Play, that will be published as a chapbook by Sweet Publications (US) in 2020. He worked on over 50 creative projects in the US and across Asia for the past 20 years. Born in Indonesia and raised in Singapore, he’s also lived in Los Angeles, Bangkok, and Hong Kong. He’s just recently relocated to Oakland, California.
