Welcome
Greetings and WELCOME TO CAAMFEST 2021.
The Center for Asian American Media (CAAM) is dedicated to presenting stories that convey the richness and diversity of Asian American experiences to the broadest audience possible. For more than 40 years, CAAM has introduced audiences to new voices and communities, advancing our collective understanding of the American experience through programs specifically designed to engage the Asian American community and larger public.
The current COVID-19 pandemic is a crisis of unprecedented scope, one that presents unique challenges to the Asian American community, due to the alarming rise in anti-Asian hate crimes born of fear and the characterization of COVID-19 as the “Chinese Virus.” CAAM believes this moment makes it even more urgent d to support and elevate Asian American stories and storytellers.
Enter CAAMFEST. We’re thrilled to present our 39th edition of our festival, which is a hybrid of Drive In experiences, live virtual screenings and events and 80+ films on CAAMFest on-demand. Our mission is to bring you the best in Asian and Asian American storytelling whether in-person at Fort Mason FLIX or in the comfort of your own home.
The world may have paused due to the pandemic, but our filmmakers didn’t and we’re excited to showcase more than 100 films at this year’s festival. The vibrancy and energy of this year’s programming is unmatched with our filmmakers bravely telling their unique and vital stories.
So on behalf of the wonderful CAAM staff, board, and interns – aka the CAAMily – please enjoy this year’s slate of films and events. We truly feel that there’s something for everyone and now, more than ever, the power of storytelling is vital to the health and happiness of our diverse communities. See you at the Drive In!
