Harvest Party at Camp Two

Directed by Rajan Gill, Reaa Puri

Bridging Our Stories

Directed by Rafael Bitanga

When the last Filipino community center in Ketchikan, Alaska, becomes just a memory, a 50-year-old Filipina who spent her life resisting her heritage travels to the Philippines to rediscover her roots, preserving her community’s disappearing culture, and teaching indigenous Filipino dances.

Barrio Beats x Taiko Streets, Far East L.A.

Directed by Jun Shimizu, Ruben Guevara

MoNa is a Japanese-born, Los Angeles-based rapper and singer whose passion and commitment toward Chicano/a culture has led her to be featured in major news outlets, and even inspired a character in a play about East L.A. Maceo Hernandez is an accomplished Chicano taiko drummer whose love for the traditional Japanese instrument took him on a dramatic journey to Japan that ultimately forced him to rethink and adapt his artistry in a new direction. Through these stories, we explore questions around cultural appropriation versus appreciation, and what it means to search for one’s authentic voice in unlikely places.
