Bad Asians, Good Trouble: Dismantling the Model Minority Myth
- 75 mins
The portrayal of Asian and Asian Americans has had its ups (Crazy Rich Asians! Fresh off the Boat! Ms. Marvel! Deli Boys!) and downs (Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany’s), but the model minority myth has remained a constant within Asian diasporas. A curated panel of CAAMFest filmmakers and storytellers join moderator Dino-Ray Ramos to discuss challenging authority, speaking out against gatekeeping, and refusing the pressure to conform. Defying the notion of the submissive Asian, the panelists will talk about how disrupting the status quo and pushing the envelope can build solidarity within the AAPI community.
Featuring Eugene Yi (Director, The A List) and other guests in conversation with Dino-Ray Ramos (Founder, DIASPORA).
